Austin Green Builder and Remodeling Contractor

Green Building and Remodeling by Ron Bulter Custom Homes, an Austin Green Builder

Green Building

In Austin, and the Texas Hill Country, green building is increasingly popular. Most people have heard of the terms “green building” or “green builder,” yet their definitions vary. Both terms can refer to energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly materials using traditional construction methods or alternative methods like straw-bale home construction.

Ron Butler Custom Homes, an Austin Green Builder and Remodeling Contractor, began using energy-efficient, indigenous and environmentally-friendly materials many years ago, before these terms were invented. When building homes using “traditional construction” methods, it is our standard policy to use materials and methods that will result in an efficient and comfortable home. Whenever possible, recycled material or at least materials that have renewable origin are used. For example:

  • Oriented strand board (OSB) for exterior sheathing and decking. This is a “plywood” product made with recycled wood.
  • Foam board is used behind the masonry which is made with no CFCs.
  • The type of insulation recommended is Cellulose which is made of recycled, renewable materials. Cellulose is environmentally friendly, and since it is blown-in, it seals up all voids in the wall and ceiling cavities.
  • The HVAC systems used are all high efficient due to better installation and sizing of the system and duct work.

From lumber to paint, all of the materials we use are top quality.

Green Remodeling

Additionally, as an Austin green builder, Ron Butler Custom Homes can “green” an existing home by retrofitting, remodeling and renovating options to enhance value and improve the home’s green possibilities.
